Tritax Symmetry, Tritax Big Box’s dedicated logistics development company, has appointed Buckingham Group Contracting (Buckingham) to undertake the infrastructure works at its logistics park at Symmetry Park, Kettering, after gaining reserved matters planning consent for the initial phase.
Located on Junction 9 of A14, the Park has outline consent for up to 2.3 million sq ft in total and can deliver a single building of 1.3 million sq ft. Buckingham is now on site delivering a fully serviced plateau of 90 acres, with estate road and utilities to suit a range of build to suit requirements.
Situated directly alongside the A14 “Trans-European” freight route at Junction 9, the site offers prominence for occupiers and excellent transport links to the national motorway and trunk road network. Neighbouring occupiers to the site include Weetablix, Morrisons and Knights Old Group.
Speaking about the progress, Jonathan Wallis, development director at Tritax Symmetry, commented: “Symmetry Park, Kettering is well placed to cater for the demand we are seeing for large scale, high quality logistics facilities. With Buckingham already on site, we are able to deliver approximately 40 acres by the end of 2021, which is capable of accommodating a single one million sq ft building to meet the immediate requirements in the market. The remaining 50 acres is scheduled to be completed by Q2 next year and we can then accommodate design and build requirements in the same year.
In line with our net zero carbon pledge, all of these new buildings will be delivered to net zero carbon in construction.”
Joint agents for the scheme are Burbage Realty and BNP Paribas Real Estate.
Dean Warman, Buckingham’s Managing Director – Civil Engineering stated: “We are delighted to be working with Tritax Symmetry to deliver this new logistics park which is great news for both the UK and local economies. In support of Tritax Symmetry’s sustainability pledge we are doing all we can to maximise the procurement of materials and services from local sources.”
Councillor Jason Smithers, Leader of North Northamptonshire Council said: “This initial stage of Symmetry Park, Kettering is positive news for the area. It will provide local job opportunities, help boost the local economy and has the potential to develop local skills. It shows that we are open for business and that companies have the confidence to continue to invest in the area. The developer’s aim for net zero carbon construction of the new buildings is equally welcome. Symmetry Park is consistent with our aim to encourage responsible growth, develop local employment opportunities, skills and economy, and tackle climate change.”
